Team of the Week – Premier League #15

Team of the Week – Premier League #15

Dec 28, 2020 | History, News, Team of the Week

This Monday’s Team of the Week consists only of the last round played in the premier league as the Premier League is the only league of the Big 5 that played on Christmas weekend. The players were selected on the amount of first passes they received when their team gained possession based on our Build-Up statistics.

Optimize your stats

– there is only 1 squad who provides multiple players to the Team with Everton providing both a goalie and a center mid in Pickford and Doucouré.

– The best scoring players this week are tied with 14 first passes received. Both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Abdoulaye Doucouré secured their spot on the team by finding a free spot the most often.

– Mentioned earlier, Everton’s’ Jordan Pickford take up the goalie position. Receiving the first pass for a goalie might not mean he found a free spot, but it does show a trust to find the free players afterwards.

– One of this round’s best scoring players, Alexander-Arnold, is featured in his second team of the week in a row now. Last week he was the right back with he most goal involvement on average over the entirety of the Big 5’s current seasons.

– We can also look at first pass in possession made. In this stat Youri Tielemans of Leichester City scored the highest with 20 passes made.

– Another statistic we can focus on while looking at passes is who made the most passes forward this round. In that case Liverpool midfielder: Jordan Henderson takes first place with 85 passes forward. 17 more than the second place.

When we look at the whole season, the following players lead the way in the Premier Leagues for first pass in possession received:

First pass in possession received

Luke David Ayling

Youri Tielemans

Leicester City

Stuart Dallas

Andrew Robertson

Manchester City

As you can see, not a single player on the Team is in the seasons top 5.

ORTEC Sports Tactic Tree

The ORTEC Sports Team of the Week is released every Monday and will present the best performing players on a specific aspect of the Tactic Tree. The Tactic Tree is used to categorize statistics into the two main stages of a game: ‘being in possession’ and the counterpart ‘possession opponent’, both divided into 4 subcategories.

Every week we pick one statistic that is used in a subcategory and based on that statistic the best scoring players on each position will be presented in the team of the week.
