Team of the Week – UCL & UEL round #5

Team of the Week – UCL & UEL round #5

Dec 7, 2020 | Champions League, Europa League, News, Team of the Week

With the group stages of the UCL and UEL drawing to a close this week, this Team of the Week will be built off the stats of the players in both UCL and ECL round #5.

For this round, the Team of the Week consists of the most successful supports, based on our Build-up statistics. These are the players with the most key actions during the UCL and UEL rounds #5. (A Key Action is any action (pass, free kick, throw in, etc.) that directly leads to a shot by a teammate.)

Optimize your stats

Optimize your stats:

– This week the squad that delivered the most players to the Team is Norways FK Molde from the Europa League. They were the only team with multiple players on the team (2).

-Although the stats of both the Europa and the Champions League were taken into account, only 1 champions league team managed to provide a player to the Team of the Week this week: Chelsea’s Emerson is the only Champions League player who excelled in his position. And even that was close: Left back Borna Barišić of the Rangers tied with him with 4 key actions.

– The best scoring player this week is Yusuf Yazici of Lille OSC, with 9 key actions performed.

– Only one spot in the team is occupied by Leicesters goalie: Danny Ward as he was the only keeper with a key action.

– The right back and right centre back of the Team, Zubeldia and Maradishvili normally play as midfielders, however last round the performed in these positions and excelled over their competition in terms of Key actions.

– We can also look at key passes instead. In that case there is a threeway tie between two players of the Team: Hestad and Geiger and a new contestant, Baktiyor Zainutdinov of CSKA Moscow. All 3 players have made 5 passes directly leading to a shot.

When we look at the full group stages, the following players lead the way in the UCL and UEL in terms of key actions:

ORTEC Sports Tactic Tree

The ORTEC Sports Team of the Week is released every Monday and will present the best performing players on a specific aspect of the Tactic Tree. The Tactic Tree is used to categorize statistics into the two main stages of a game: ‘being in possession’ and the counterpart ‘possession opponent’, both divided into 4 subcategories.

Every week we pick one statistic that is used in a subcategory and based on that statistic the best scoring players on each position will be presented in the team of the week.
